Former Ryder Cup participant Gordon Model Jr. dies at age 60

Gordon Model, Jr., a two-time European Ryder Cup participant, has died at age 60.

The Scotsman was scheduled to compete on this week’s Staysure PGA Seniors Championship.

Model was a member of the 1987 European Ryder Cup staff that received on American soil for the primary time at Muirfield Village. He was additionally on the 1989 staff that tied the Individuals at The Belfry to retain the cup.

Model received eight occasions on the European Tour and competed in 18 Open Championships. He labored for the R&A’s dwell radio service throughout The Open at Royal Portrush, two weeks in the past.

He’s survived by his spouse, Sheena. Friends and mates mourned his passing Thursday morning.
